KIPS BAY, Manhattan (WABC) -- Police have arrested and charged a suspect in a sex assault and attempted rape of a woman.

Dominique Frazier, 31, of New York, was arrested and charged with attempted rape, robbery and a criminal sex act on Dec. 5.

On Thanksgiving at noon at 344 E. 28th St. (the Straus Houses), police said Frazier forced the victim into the 17th floor stairwell where he forced her to perform a sexual act and then attempted to rape her.

The victim resisted. Frazier is accused of grabbing her handbag, then fleeing down the stairwell. The victim chased him to the lobby and a bystander recovered her handbag from the suspect.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital where she was treated and released.
