Driver killed after crashing car into MTA bus in Jamaica
Josh Einiger reports from Jamaica, Queens.

JAMAICA, Queens (WABC) -- A car struck an MTA bus in Jamaica, Queens Monday night, killing the driver of the car.

It happened on Union Turnpike and 175th Street right outside of St. John's University just before 9 p.m.

It appears that the car hit the bus head-on when it turned out of an exit at the university onto a divided road on the wrong side.

The MTA says that the bus driver likely survived thanks to the A-pillar design of the bus.

There were fireworks going on at the time of the crash due to a winter celebration at St. John's. One student Eyewitness News spoke to suggested the driver may have gotten distracted.

The driver of the Q46 bus and a passenger suffered minor injuries and were taken to Queens Hospital.

Authorities are investigating the cause of accident.
