NEW YORK (WABC) -- New York, New Jersey and Connecticut will work together to provide extra security on mass transit during the holiday season.

Governor Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order that gives law enforcement agencies in New Jersey and Connecticut jurisdiction on New York's mass transit.

He says that will allow the other states security and counter-terrorism officials to assist New York in ensuring public safety at places traditionally targeted by terrorists.

The order took effect Tuesday, and will remain in effect for 30 days.

"With the busy holiday season in full swing, we are taking every precaution necessary to mitigate potential terrorist threats and keep people safe," said Cuomo. "This order gives our partners in New Jersey and Connecticut greater ability to help patrol and protect our mass transit networks."

Cuomo said increased manpower and overall law enforcement presence will provide additional reassurance to the hundreds of thousands of commuters who travel between New York, New Jersey and Connecticut daily via mass transit systems, including inter-state rail, buses and ferries.
