Arrest in fatal shooting of construction company owner on Long Island

UNIONDALE, Long Island (WABC) -- Police have made an arrest in the fatal shooting of a Uniondale, Long Island man.

Nassau County Police announced the arrest of Joel Arquimides Ayala Deras, 35, of Westbury. He is charged with second-degree murder.

On Monday night, police responding to a 911 call of shots fired in the vicinity of Macon Place and Irving Place found 37-year-old German Ismael Saravia Melendez lying on his left side, shot multiple times.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim, initially from El Salvador, owned a local construction company.
