CHELSEA, Manhattan (WABC) -- A fire station in Chelsea is in mourning after an EMS Lieutenant died after falling off a mountain during a hike.

Lieutenant Joann Restko was climbing in the Adirondacks when she fell near Lake George.

Black and purple bunting hung outside FDNY Station 7 in Chelsea on Sunday night. There is also bunting over ambulance windows.

According to the FDNY Women's Benevolent Association's Facebook page, Joann Restko was off-duty, mountain climbing in the Adirondacks, taking in the big sky, when she died.

One comment left on the Facebook page says "I will miss my cousin. She was hard-working, intelligent, and kind. She loved family, friends, kids and animals. She had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed living life to the fullest."

FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro issued a statement Sunday night saying, "This is a terrible tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers are with Joann Restko's family at this difficult time."
