NEW YORK (WABC) -- The Taxi and Limousine Commission passed a new set of rules on Monday, stating that cabs now have a limit to how the cruise the streets.

Taxi drivers are now limited to 12-hour-a-day trips, and no more than 72 hours a week.

The new set of rules were proposed in back in May. Officials says that taxi drivers were working extremely long hours in an effort to make more money, resulting in dangerous streets. This raised numerous safety concerns.

However, at a recent hearing, the taxi industry officials complained that this new ruling would put a damper in their drivers' earnings.

TLC officials are open to re-looking at the rules before they go into effort in November. Trip records of the drivers will be looked at.
