OCEANPORT, New Jersey (WABC) -- A body found on a dirt road in New Jersey Wednesday is connected to a man's disappearance in Manhattan, sources told Eyewitness News.

The body was found on Monmouth Boulevard in Oceanport.

Sources said searchers knew where to look, as they were led there during the course of their missing person investigation. A dog found the body, which was not buried very deeply, we're told.

A worker at nearby FJ Foggia Florist said when he came to work Wednesday morning, the police were already there and the road was blocked off.

The body is believed to be 26-year-old Joseph "Joey" Comunale, of Stamford, Connecticut, who disappeared after attending a party at an Upper East Side apartment building Saturday. He was last seen at that apartment building on East 59th Street in Manhattan, and his father reported him missing Monday.

The location where the body was found Wednesday was about 60 miles from that apartment.

The medical examiner has not yet positively identified the body as Comunale.
