Students take to the radio to communicate with people in Puerto Rico
Lauren Glassberg has the latest on the efforts made by students to help Puerto Rico.

JACKSON HEIGHTS, Queens (WABC) -- Students at Garden School, a private school in Jackson Heights, Queens, are doing a little extra curricular work to help folks in Puerto Rico.

They are helping to send out radio messages from loved ones here in New York City.

Since there is very little electric in Puerto Rico, communication is difficult at best, so old-fashioned radio transmissions are one of the few ways to get in contact with people.

The students have been able to send out a handful of messages already.

They haven't yet heard back from anyone in Puerto Rico, but they're hoping at some point they do.

The students say the work is pretty gratifying, even if it means holing up in a very small room to send out these messages.
