STONY BROOK (WABC) -- 37-year-old James Lauricella and 41-year-old Kimberly Mikucki of Holtsville said their wedding vows Saturday in Chapel at Stony Brook University Hospital.

The couple had recently canceled their wedding, originally planned for December 2014 at Villa Lombardi's in Holbrook, after Lauricella was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).

Lauricella discovered he had ALL at the end of July after going for a physical to re-enter the volunteer fire department. Routine blood work showed there was something off, so doctors urged him to head straight to Stony Brook.

After almost two weeks in the hospital, the couple changed plans with the help of nurses and social workers, and finally said "I Do" on Saturday in front of family, friends, nurses and medical staff.

Villa Lombardi's donated food and refreshments for the reception, which took place in the Oncology Bone Marrow unit patient lounge.
