4 students burned in science experiment at Bronx school
ALLERTON, Bronx (WABC) -- Four students were burned in a science experiment at St. Catharine Academy in the Bronx.
School President, Sister Patricia Wolf says a teacher was performing a demonstration in chemistry lab using a flame and alcohol. The flame got a little bigger than expected, and the students' faces were singed like a sunburn.
The four were taken to Jacobi Medical Center with various injuries. None of the injuries are believed to be serious, and all of the students are expected to be okay.
The school texted all parents to let them know of the incident, and called the parents of those who were injured.
Sister Wolf says the teacher is 'distraught' over the accident.
Flames were quickly put out.
St Catharine Academy is an independent all-girls Catholic school run by the Mercy Sisters in the Allerton section.
