Shoppers hit area stores, malls on Thanksgiving Day
Danielle Leigh has more from the Queens Center Mall

ELMHURST, Queens (WABC) -- It's one way to work off that Thanksgiving meal.

Thousands of people who streamed through the Queens Center Mall with their stomachs full - were about to leave with their wallets empty.

Danielle Leigh reports from the Elmhurst section of Queens.

Most of the shoppers were hoping for a head start on Black Friday deals. For others, shopping just meant something to do with the family.

Whether it's a pair of shades, coats, shoes or something else you've been eyeing, many retailers are offering store-wide discounts.

Forecasters predict shoppers will take the bait - Americans are expected to spend over $90 billion this Black Friday.

Queens Center Mall is predicting that sales will equal that of the Saturday before Christmas - and that doesn't even take into consideration all of the shopping and deals in the store on the actual Black Friday.
