Sandy Kenyon talks to 'How to Get Away with Murder' star Viola Davis

Excitement is growing for the return "TGIT" on WABC Thursday night, with Meredith, Olivia and Annalise all set to return in new episodes.

Sandy Kenyon sat down with "How to Get Away with Murder" star Viola Davis for a one-on-one interview, after show creator Shonda Rhimes tweeted Wednesday that they've finished shooting and scheduled the wrap party."

The show may resemble a game of Clue, but as played by Davis, defense attorney Analise Keating isn't fooling around. We know that she knows how her husband was killed -- and we know the who, what and where -- but the fun comes from watching all of them figure out "How to Get Away with Murder."

"We have just created some compelling television that's been very risky, that looks really different, that has pushed buttons, but in all the right ways," Davis said.

Her fellow actors agree, and just this past Sunday, Davis was recognized by her peers in the Screen Actors Guild.

"I'm one of those people, I don't want to take credit for anything," she said just before her win.

In typical fashion, she paid tribute to the show's creators, the network's head of entertainment and the SAG awards "for thinking that a sexualized, messy, mysterious woman could be a 49-year-old dark-skinned African-American woman who looks like me."

As a performer, she can only be as good as the words she gets to say, and as strong as her character has always been, the star lobbied to let the prosecutor's vulnerable side show through.

"I wanted her to feel like a real woman," she said. "I wanted her to truly be messy. I didn't want her to be put in some big package that is likable and easy to swallow. So I had to show the vulnerability to counteract the strength."

Like her character, Davis makes bold moves and says that's the key to mastering the quick pace of TV production.

"You just make a choice and run the ball," she said.

And we get to watch her do that every Thursday night.
