Authorities say a car occupied by two males hit a guardrail, then lost control and crossed into the opposite lane, striking a van.

RINGWOOD, New Jersey (WABC) -- Two teenagers were killed in a head-on crash in New Jersey Wednesday afternoon.

The accident happened at about 3:15 p.m. on Greenwood Lake Turnpike north of Skyline Drive in Ringwood.

Authorities say a Toyota Corolla driven by 19-year-old Victor Weinpel of Wanaque hit a guardrail, then lost control and crossed into the opposite lane, striking a van.

First responders had to cut the roof off the Corolla to reach Weinpel and his passenger, a 17-year-old male from West Milford. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The van driver, 64-year-old Paul Barker of Ringwood, was hospitalized with minor injuries. There were no passengers in the van.

Greenwood Lake Turnpike was shut down between Skyline Drive and Skylands Road as police investigated the accident.
