New Jersey religious education teacher charged with child porn possession

NEWARK (WABC) -- A New Jersey man who was a leader in a boys youth organization and religious education teacher was charged Wednesday with possessing images of child sexual abuse, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fisherman announced.

Gregory J. Aker, 45, of Linden, is charged with one count of possessing child pornography. He was arrested on February 22, 2014, by the Linden Police Department and charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of two minors.

After his arrest, officials obtained multiple computers and electronic storage from Aker's residence that contained approximately 1,240 images and 43 videos of child pornography.

Images included prepubescent children being sexually abused.

The charge for possession of child pornography carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
