PATERSON, New Jersey (WABC) -- A woman was fatally shot while making a DoorDash food delivery in New Jersey Friday night.
Police responded to reports of shots fired around 10:20 p.m. near Harrison Street and Rosa Parks Boulevard in Paterson and discovered 43-year-old Petra Rhoden in the driver's seat of her car, which had crashed through a fence and struck a shed.
Officers saw that Rhoden had been shot and performed CPR.
She was taken to a local hospital, where she died.
Officials said Rhoden was making a DoorDash delivery on the 200 block of Harrison Street where she was shot, and she then drove off before crashing a short distance away.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Petra Rhoden, a Paterson-area Dasher, and our thoughts are with her family, friends and loved ones," a DoorDash spokesperson said in a statement. "We have reached out to her family to offer our full support to them during this difficult time. In addition, we are in contact with law enforcement and cooperating with their investigation of this horrific crime."
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
Police in Paterson are also investigating a second death over the weekend, after the body of a 13-year-old boy was found just before 4 p.m. Sunday in the area behind 133 Harrison Street.
The medical examiner's office was called to the scene and took custody of the body, and an autopsy will be performed in order to determine the manner and cause of death.
That investigation is also active and ongoing.
"Two Patersonians lost their lives this past weekend, and I am extending my condolences to their families on this tragedy," Mayor Andre Sayegh said in a statement. "Our Police Department will continue to devote special attention and resources to some of the most troubled sections of our city, methodically working to investigate crimes, get guns off the streets, and arrest the perpetrators. They continue to partner with federal, state, and county law enforcement agencies to make our neighborhoods safer. We will also continue to work with all of our community partners, including the Paterson Public Schools and the faith-based community, to come together to support the friends and families traumatized by violence in our community."
The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office asks anyone with additional information about either incident to contact them on our tips line at 1-877-370-PCPO or email@example.com or contact the Paterson Police Detective Bureau at 973-321-1120.
