Newark double shooting leaves man dead, woman in hospital

NEWARK, N.J. (WABC) -- A man and a woman sitting in a vehicle were shot in Newark Tuesday morning.

Authorities say the woman was in stable condition, while the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A neighbor reported hearing gunshots around 7:30 a.m. on Tillinghast Street, then saw a woman get out of the car and scream for help.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable said they are in the early stages of investigating the double shooting.

The fatality was identified as 28-year-old Carl M. Talbert, of Newark.

The 35-year-old woman, whose name is not being released at this time, was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is active and ongoing.

No arrests have been made, and no other information is available at this time.
