Queens crossing guard in stable condition after being struck by car

JACKSON HEIGHTS (WABC) -- A 76-year-old on-duty crossing guard is in stable condition after she was struck by a car in Queens Thursday morning.

The incident happened at the intersection of 34th Avenue and 82nd Street in Jackson Heights around 10:45 a.m.

Police say Mary Cox was leaning against a car when she was sideswiped by a passing vehicle.

She was knocked to the ground and hit her head.

The victim was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital. She has been a crossing guard for the past seven years.

The driver remained at the scene.

Police are investigating, but at this point, no criminality is suspected.
