STATEN ISLAND (WABC) -- A 15-year-old student on Staten Island was charged on Tuesday with criminal mischief as a hate crime and making graffiti inside his school.

The student is accused of writing "death for Jewish religion" in Arabic on a poster inside I.S. 49.

A safety agent for the school, who can read Arabic, noticed the writing in blue ink on Tuesday.

The student was taken into custody after the school day had ended and is being charged as a juvenile in the case.
