Girl with Down syndrome learns she made cheerleading squad
Lauren Glassberg reports on a fifth-grader who has once again defied the odds

LOUISIANA -- A fifth grader from Louisiana who doctors were unsure would survive after she was born in once again proving she can beat the odds.

Now, 10 years later, she's going on strong and having a dream come true.

Meet Lacey Parker, who recently found out she made her school's cheerleading team.

"I love to cheer," she said.

Lacey has Down syndrome, and doctors didn't expect her to live 10 days. But the happy, healthy and active little girl has repeatedly shown that the condition is not a label, is not who she is.

The principal and cheer coach encouraged her to try out for the team, so Lacey's parents let her. And when she found out she was on the team, her mom posted the video on her Facebook page.

In just a few hours, the video was seen by more than 4,000 people. And within a few days, that number jumped to two million.

"It's just so amazing that one little girl has touched so many people by achieving her dream," mom Renee Parker said. "She's never said 'I can't,' she's never wanted anybody to treat her different. She's always told us 'I just want to be like everybody else.'"

Lacey says her next goal is to get her driver's license, and she wants a black Mustang.
