Annual Dominican Day parade marches up Sixth Avenue

NEW YORK (WABC) -- There was a colorful celebration of Caribbean pride and culture in Midtown on Sunday as thousands came out for the 34th annual Dominican Day Parade.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo marched up 6th Avenue alongside festive floats, dancers and musicians.

Baseball Hall of Famer and former New York Met, Pedro Martinez was this year's grand marshal.

Mayor de Blasio was booed as he marched in the parade.

Some revelers said at the parade Sunday in Manhattan that the mayor should apologize for comments he made in June that criticized the Dominican Republic's immigration policies.

Many in the city's Dominican community were offended when de Blasio condemned the expulsion of thousands of people of Haitian descent from the Dominican Republic.

Hundreds of thousands of Haitians have feared being deported from the Dominican Republic amid the immigration crisis.
