SAYREVILLE (WABC) -- A contractor will be firing up the bulldozers and chainsaws in New Jersey Wednesday for the second phase of the Superstorm Sandy buyout program.

The demolitions will be taking place in Sayreville.

The state has identified nearly 700 homes it wants to purchase and tear down, with the so-called Blue Acres program funded by $300 million allocated by the Christie administration.

It's all part of an attempt to clear homeowners out of flood-prone areas.

The Department of Environmental Protection administers the program.
