Car rolls over 3-year-old girl as mother unloads groceries in Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. (WABC) -- A 3-year-old girl was critically injured when her mother's car rolled backwards over her in Stamford, Connecticut.

It happened on Pine Hill Avenue around 10:16 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say the girl's 32-year-old mother had parked their 2011 Subaru Outback station wagon in front of their house.

She was in the process of unloading her children and groceries when the car rolled backward on the downgrade of the parking lot.

Police say she quickly put the transmission into park and the car stopped, but not before running over her young daughter.

Her 20-month-old son was still in the car at the time of the accident.

The 3-year-old girl sustained life threatening injuries.

She was rushed to Stamford Hospital where she was then air lifted to Yale-New Haven Hospital for further treatment.
