Man charged with killing wife after barricade situation in Plumsted, New Jersey

PLUMSTED, N.J. (WABC) -- A New Jersey man is charged with murder after police say he killed his wife as part of what appears to have been an attempted murder suicide.

The suspect, 56-year old Arthur Haskoor of New Egypt, remains hospitalized in stable but critical conditiion with self-inflicted injuries.

Officials received information around 10 a.m. Tuesday that there was a domestic dispute taking place at a home on Evergreen Road in Plumsted.

School officials immediately called 911, and members of the Plumsted Township Police Department were dispatched.

Upon their arrival, officers found a 48-year-old Susan Haskoor deceased in the driveway, the victim of an apparent stabbing. They proceeded to the home's front entrance and found a note on the front door telling police that there were guns in the house and that the occupant would kill them.

It was later confirmed through interviews with the suspect's son that there were at least six weapons owned by the father, Arthur Haskoor, in the home.

The residence was immediately secured, and resources from Ocean County Northern Regional SWAT Team, Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, Plumsted Township Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff's Department and the New Jersey State Police were called, and a perimeter was established to contain the suspect.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., a camera-equipped robot made entry to the residence and found Haskoor unresponsive in the garage area of the home. He was airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center, and is now at Capital Health Regional Trauma Center in Trenton.

The couple had been married for 20 years with two male children, ages 17 and 18.

Bail for Haskoor, who is also charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, was set at $1 million.
