MINEOLA, N.Y. -- Officials confirm one person has died after being clipped by a Long Island Rail Road train at the Mineola station.

LIRR spokesman Aaron Donovan says the person was struck around 11:30 p.m. Sunday by a Ronkonkoma train scheduled to arrive at Penn Station in Manhattan at 11:59 p.m.

Newsday reports the LIRR suspended its service in both directions of the Ronkonkoma, Port Jefferson and Oyster Bay lines immediately following the accident.

Several delays were reported after the "unauthorized person" was killed on the tracks of the station, located at the intersection of Mineola Boulevard and Front Street.

Donovan says the service suspensions most likely would not affect Monday morning's commute.

Authorities are investigating the death.

The victim's identity has not yet been released.
