Police found a gigantic cache of weaponry in the car and home of a Queens man, including a machine gun and 20,000 rounds of ammo.
The New York Police Department arrested 36-year-old Suwei Chuang Wednesday night after getting reports that he was carrying a weapon. They searched his home and vehicle and found his arsenal.
The NYPD said the weapons included an AR-15 assault rifle with 18 loaded magazines and a Belgium-made machine gun, along with 40 large combat knives and 20,000 rounds of ammunition. Some of the ammo was the armor-piercing variety.
He also had four bulletproof vests and a half-dozen police-style radios.
Investigators say they do not believe Chuang is a would-be terrorist, just a black market weapons dealer, but an ambitious one at that.
"I don't know if you'd like to be sitting in traffic beside a guy with an AR-15 and 800 rounds," Detective Miles Mahady said. "I wouldn't. Lower Manhattan, there's a lot of people, you can move quickly in a car. With that sort of firepower in the car, it's particularly scary."
Chuang was arrested without a struggle on charges of criminal weapons possession. Police say the next step is to track down his customers.
