3 dead, 4 hurt in Long Island boat crash

WANTAGH The U.S. Coast Guard says that rescuers were working to evacuate all the people injured in Sunday's boating accident. At least one person was airlifted to a hospital by helicopter.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

The 64-year-old owner of the boat, who was also driving, was ejected from the boat when it ran aground. He was found in the marsh later and was pronounced dead.

U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Barbara Patton says that the accident happened in marshland only accessible from the Wantagh State Parkway.

The roadway runs north and south between Ocean Parkway at Jones Beach State Park and Westbury.

The Nassau County Police Department, Wantagh Fire Department and New York City Police Department were assisting in the rescue efforts.
