Fire tears through row of stores in Fresh Meadows

A second-alarm fire tore through a several stores on a commercial strip in the Fresh Meadows section of Queens.

The fire burned through the businesses on Union Turnpike just after 1:30 a.m. Friday. Flames shot through the roof of the one-story strip.

A nail salon, a restaurant and an Allstate insurance business were damaged.

Firefighters put out the flames in about 40 minutes.
