New Jersey Democrats say a Republican proposal to revive Atlantic City's struggling casinos by exerting more state control over the gaming capital lacks specifics and undercuts the horse racing industry.A 10-member panel of Democratic lawmakers convened yesterday at Atlantic City's Convention Center to dissect Gov. Chris Christie's recent recommendations for the future of gaming, horse racing and entertainment.

The hearing was the first of three planned meetings. It focused on the future of Atlantic City's casinos and the 38,000 jobs the industry sustains.

The plan to revitalize Atlantic City comes as the casinos have seen eroding profits because of the economy and increased competition from gambling facilities in neighboring states.
