Quick-thinking officer tracks bandit using iPhone

A bandit who made off with an iPhone ended up getting caught because of it.

Police say just after 7:00 p.m. on Thursday a woman was robbed inside of the Tuci Italia Department store on Sixth Avenue in Midtown.

The woman, 24, said she was sitting in the store by the front door, when the suspect walked inside armed with a black handgun. He removed her iPhone and fled.

One of the responding officers, Police Officer Robert Garland, obtained the victim's iTunes account and used the iCloud feature on his iPhone to track the victim's iPhone.

Investigators were able to track the suspect to the area around 8th Avenue and West 49 Street.

The suspect had placed the phone in his boot.

The victim's phone began to beep as the suspect walked by police, who then arrested the suspect.

No weapon was recovered.

George Bradshaw, 40, of Brooklyn was charged.
