STATEN ISLAND

The Ferrante Quintuples were born on December 27, 2008 in Staten Island.

Alessia, Amanda, Emily Ann, Matthew and Ella were Jamie and Kevin Ferrante's first born. (times 5)

Friday, the kids celebrated with the doctors and nurses who took care of them.

Born at Staten Island University Medical Center, the quintuplets weighed 9 pounds total at birth.

"From bringing home they were little nothings and what they are now is incredible," said their dad Kevin Ferrante.

Even their doctor is impressed.

"The fact that they all turned out so well is like hitting the lotto," said Dr. James Ducey.

The Ferrante 5 are now in kindergarten. Jamie and Kevin say they weren't expecting 5, and fertility treatments caused multiple eggs to mature at once.

"These past 5 years has been nuts but we wouldn't have it any other way," said their mother Jamie.

They get around in that giant van- and everyday life isn't easy

"They went from drinking 7 cases of formula a week to now eating like I've never seen kids eat," adds Jamie.

Kevin says they have had a lot of help from family, friends and their community.

This time of year Jamie says they're at the doctors office a couple times a week.

She adds that when one gets sick, they all get sick.

The one boy says that he is clearly outnumbered, telling Dr. Sapna Parikh that there's a lot of girl stuff around.
