Man arrested in New Rochelle smash-and-grab burglaries

Around 6 a.m., there was a car chase through New Rochelle that ended on Clinton Avenue.

According to the New Rochelle Police Department, officers arrested Anthony Clowe, 43, of New Rochelle. He has been charged with aggravated unlicensed operation and reckless driving, and in two burglaries Friday and overnight Sunday.

After midnight Monday, there were three burglaries during which cash registers were stolen. Clowe is suspected of stealing cash from the register at 642 North Ave. Last Friday, another similar burglary occurred at 766 North Ave. The suspect might be responsible for similar burglaries in other jurisdictions.

According to New Rochelle Capt. Joseph Schaller, a lieutenant on patrol Monday morning spotted the vehicle wanted in connection with the Friday burglary and chased it. Clowe, who was driving, was arrested at his home on Clinton Avenue after the chase.

He is also being investigated for similar smash-and-grabs in Pelham and Pelham Manor. In each case, Asian restaurants were targeted and all occurred overnight.
