Program teaches kids how to boost confidence, ease pressure before auditions

NEW YORK (WABC) -- It may look like band camp, but the soon to be 8th graders are gearing up for fall auditions. They're hoping to secure a spot at a NYC high school that specializes in the arts.

But many of them like Khaseem Tyme are petrified by the process.

"I think of people staring at me and gets me nervous, a lot," he said.

But of all places, at Lincoln Center, he's getting great lessons.

"We're giving them a good rigorious program to give them confidence and preparation for that," said Dan Burwasser,

Burwasser teaches at one of those specialty schools. So he knows what makes for a good audition.

Plus he's assisted by a teaching artist from Lincoln Center.

This is the first year for audition bootcamp, created out of a partnership between the Department of Education and Lincoln Center.

The program hits all disciplines and for the more than 100 students who might not be able to afford extra classes or private tutors, this free program could level the playing field.
