NEW YORK (WABC) -- Avengers: Age of Ultron has already grossed a quarter-billion dollars overseas where it's been in release for a week, and the total in the U.S. and Canada could be almost as much by Monday. So let's be honest - what I say has very little sway.
To fans the "Age of Ultron" just might be the ultimate movie featuring the Avengers, but I don't think it's as good as the first one because nothing in it is quite as cool as laying waste to so much of Manhattan.
The sequel begins here in the city at the headquarters of Tony Stark who's looking to make the world safe so Iron Man and his fellow Avengers can take it easy for awhile.
When his experiment goes awry, Ultron is born, given life by the eerie voice of James Spader.
The Avengers are at risk again, bedeviled by weird twins and by a comic book villain who, like so many before him, is bent on world domination.
Amid all of the crashing and bashing come moments like the tender-flirtation between Black Widow played by Scarlett Johansson and Hulk in the form of Mark Ruffalo.
"I think this movie does a really good job of taking the super-human and making them super human," Ruffalo said at the New York City premiere.
At times they seem not so much larger than life as down to earth. Those interludes offer a welcome break from all that action. but, at two hours and 20 minutes the "Age of Ultron" lasts too long and frankly left me wondering - to quote one character - "is that the best you can do?"
I needed a second opinion for this one so i took our web guru Bob Monek along with me to see the movie. He says "If you liked the previous Avengers, you will love this one. Lots of action right out the gate, but not so much as to overwhelm the story, which I found more interesting the last movie. Some strong acting and real good dialogue with a nice mix of humor make it even more enjoyable. It's not for young kids, but pre-teens and teens will definitely enjoy along with the big kids like me!"
