Beauty subscriptions offer actual treatments to spark skincare routine

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Nowadays, you can subscribe to anything from magazines to beauty packages that come in the mail. And now, you can add actual beauty treatments to the list. The idea is to make sure you make time to treat yourself, and businesses are banking on it.

"A few months ago, I was very stressed at work, and it was taking its toll on my skin," client Sarah Pierson said. "And I really just wanted to clear things up."

So to address those skin issues, Pierson headed to Heyday in the Flatiron District.

"Heyday is a facial shop," Heyday owner Michael Pollak said. "And our whole aim was to take the facial out of the spa and into people's lives."

The setting is unique.

"You don't have to change into a robe, you don't have a private treatment room," Pollack said. "So we have semi-private open spaces, which just keeps it a little bit more fun and a little simpler for you to get in and get out."

Facials are 30 minutes or 50 minutes, and Heyday offers a subscription membership service for as little as $74 a month. You can get a monthly facial, and an app makes bookings easy.

"We charge your card once a month, and we email you to book any time that's convenient for you," Pollak said. "We have super long hours, open seven days a week, so you come in, get your treatment, make sure you stay on track with your skin care routine."

Heyday is among a growing number of wellness and beauty brands offering subscription services. Dry Bar offers the Barfly Membership, and the on-demand massage company Zeel offers monthly subscriptions. And when you join the Laundry Club at Skin Laundry, you can get as many as four treatments each month.

A laser and light combination cleans and tones the skin, and it takes only 10 minutes, which is why people are making it part of their weekly routine and opting for a subscription.

The subscriptions also come with perks like discounts on products or add-ons like peels or dermabrasion at Heyday.

Those perks help foster the relationship with the client, and for those like Pierson, it's all about ease, affordability and great skin.

"I tried the one facial, and then I bought a subscription," she said. "I know that if I have a 50-minute facial for September, I've got to find the time to come in."
