BERGENFIELD (WABC) -- A crossing guard is in the hospital after being struck by a car near a synagogue in New Jersey.

Police say Jo-Ann Hans was helping with traffic at the intersection of New Bridge Road and Thames Boulevard in Bergenfield as worshippers were arriving at Congregation Beth Abraham for Rosh Hashanah services Tuesday morning.

She was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

The driver, 63-year-old Pawothil Abraham, stayed at the scene, where he refused medical care.

The vehicle was driven by Pawothil Abraham, age 63 of Bergenfield. The driver refused medical aid at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
