MARYLAND -- Military members helped an eight-year-old boy spend a day with his cancer at the back of his mind.

Service members at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland let Kwami Penty be a "Pilot for the Day."

They escorted Kwami on base in a Humvee, gave him a welcome ceremony and swore him in.

They even gave him his own wing-man for the day.

And gave him a chance to fly a helicopter simulator.

"It's thrilling, exciting, most spectacular thing I've ever done. I feel special," said Kwami.

Kwami has a rare malignant brain tumor.

The Check Six Foundation, which helps terminally ill children, helped arrange and pay for the experience.
