EASTCHESTER, Bronx (WABC) -- A 22-year-old driver apparently speeding away from an attempted traffic stop collided with another vehicle in the Eastchester section of the Bronx early Thursday, injuring four people.

Police say the driver of a Mercedes E-350 was spotted by undercover officers making an unsafe lane change around 2:30 a.m. The officers activated the lights of their unmarked vehicle in an attempt to pull the driver over, but he reportedly sped away.

Authorities say the man drove in the wrong direction in an attempt to lose the officers, and he crashed into a Chrysler Town and Country just blocks away at Boston Road and Ropes Avenue.

Police said they were not chasing him.

The suspect was taken into custody, and charges are pending. He was not injured.

His passenger, as well as two men and one woman in the Chrysler, were taken to Jacobi Medical Center with minor injuries.
