BROOKLYN (WABC) -- The ex-boyfriend of the off-duty correction officer fatally shot in her car in the Flatlands section of Brooklyn, previously named as a person of interest by the NYPD, is being questioned in her murder.

Authorities say the man was arrested in Brooklyn Wednesday morning on an unrelated outstanding warrant for allegedly setting a previous girlfriend's car on fire. He was reportedly found by members of the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force hiding in a basement closet and was taken into custody.

Charges are expected at some point.

The ex-boyfriend has at least 31 prior arrests, including two domestics incidents in which he allegedly threatened the victim, 25-year-old Alastasia Bryan.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, following wake services Monday in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Bryan was a recent graduate of the City Correction Academy and had just started working at the Anna Kross Center on Rikers Island a month ago.

Five bullets punctured the driver's side window of her car while she was parked at East 73rd Street and Avenue L on Sunday, December 4. Several of those shots struck her in the head and chest, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The search continues for the sedan spotted leaving the scene.

"We are looking for the gold Hyundai. That's what we are trying to do. The case is progressing really well," said Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce, NYPD.
