Trump Entertainment files lawsuit over Sandy shortfall

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Trump Entertainment Resorts is suing two insurance companies, alleging they underpaid the Atlantic City casino company on claims from Superstorm Sandy.

The company filed a lawsuit on Oct. 28, a day before the third anniversary of Sandy.

It claims the insurers wrongly withheld payments for lost income during and after the storm.

At the time, the company owned two Atlantic City casinos, the Taj Mahal and Trump Plaza. Trump Plaza closed in September 2014.

Last year the insurers denied the lost income claim, saying it fell under an exemption barring such payments during mandatory evacuations.

The state closed the Atlantic City casinos for nearly a week.

Trump Entertainment is struggling to emerge from bankruptcy protection.
