Dashcam video of wild police chase throughout New Jersey

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. (WABC) -- New police dashcam video has been released of a wild chase involving a carjacking and a stolen police car.

This was a high speed and very dangerous police chase along a busy stretch of Route 4 that could have ended far worse.

Police provided our first glimpse of dash cam video showing that out-of-control suspect and the quick thinking of officers in pursuit.

Recklessly racing through stop lights and bobbing and weaving through traffic, the man behind the wheel of the police car is no sworn officer of the law.

"Here's a guy that puts on a police hat, sticks his tongue out at pursuing officers, in my 25 years I've never heard of such an act, so that will tell you what type of state of mind he had," said Chief Thomas Rowe, of the Leonia Police Department.

Investigators say 22-year-old Sereymanta Kong led New Jersey police on a wild chase through seven towns Sunday.

It all began with a botched carjacking involving an SUV with two children inside in Englewood Cliffs.

The kids escaped before Kong took off down a dead end where police had him surrounded, but somehow he managed to get away inside of a marked car.

In the video, you can watch as officers from several towns including Leonia stayed tight on his heels as he erratically raced down some of the busiest roadways in Northern New Jersey.

At one point, he even forces several cruisers to collide with one another.

"If this person continued to go at the speed he was going at and what he was doing, his reckless conduct, he's completely depraved, that he would without question have no problem smashing into civilian vehicles," Rowe said.

Fearing people nearby would be hurt; a Leonia officer waited for the perfect time to execute a fish tail maneuver that finally stopped Kong in his tracks.

"When we do these things we know there's risks that we're going to undertake, but we do it because we have to try to make sure that civilians up the road are safe," Rowe said.

Kong was arrested at the scene, but not before he tried to bite several officers. At least five officers from different jurisdictions went to the hospital, but all are expected to be okay.

Charges against Kong include three counts each of assault on police, resisting arrest and eluding with serious injury, as well as one count of assault on a corrections officer and various other charges including disarming a police officer, carjacking and obstruction.

He remains in custody on $ 1,275,000 bail and is in the custody of county sheriff's officers at Bergen Regional Medical Center.
