Brazen thief tries to steal woman's new car twice
Josh Einiger has the story.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Police have released surveillance video of a suspect who stole a Lexus right out of a driveway in the Bronx, and tried to do it more than once!

It happened at about 9:45 p.m. on May 17th on Ely Ave.

It's a brazen act of a baby-faced burglar. Home security cameras recorded every second as the apparent teen slinked up to a home in the Bronx, took a look around, and let himself in an unlocked door.

Moments later, he walked out with a pair of Air Jordan's and the keys to the one-month-old Lexus in the driveway.

He unlocked it, fired it up, and pulled away.

"It could be worse. My life could be gone just by him stepping through my door," said Debbie Raymor, the car's owner.

Raymor wonders what might have happened if she'd confronted the young man in her living room, or if he'd wanted something else. She was in bed upstairs at the time.

It took cops only a day to track her Lexus to a parking spot on the Grand Concourse, and they had it back in her driveway, with new keys, the next day.

But the day after that, the fearless thief returned in broad daylight, opened up her gate, and tried to unlock the car. But when he realized the key he'd stolen no longer worked, he ran off.

"I don't know what to say," Raymor said.

Raymor is not about material things, in fact she used to drive an old Toyota Corolla.

"I'm really not excited about cars and stuff like that," Raymor said.

The Lexus was special to her not for its prestige, but for what it represents. It was a gift from the daughter she raised on her own, a gift so callously taken by a kid who knew no better.

"It's my daughter, my oldest daughter who loved me so dearly and she think I deserve something good. And she decided to give me this car," Raymor said. "And this guy comes in and took the car."

The suspect is described as a male, light-skinned, 16-18 years of age, 120-140 pounds, wearing a light colored shirt, dark colored jeans and black sneakers.
