FDNY spreads holiday cheer to hospitalized children in Queens
Amy Freeze has more on the FDNY making a special Christmas visit to hospitalized children in Bayside.

BAYSIDE, Queens (WABC) -- Some of New York's Bravest were spreading Christmas cheer in Queens.

Members of the FDNY got the chance to play Santa Friday, bringing presents to children and families that have to spend the holidays in the hospital.

Old Saint Nick, looking spry as ever, made his way down the ladder of a brand new rig off the rooftop, from high above Bayside, Queens.

Newscopter 7 caught the whole thing.

"Joy to everyone and us as well, these kids can't be home, they can't be home to get their presents. These are sick kids," Santa said.

This is an acute long-term hospital and 100 children will spend Christmas here.

For almost two decades, FDNY Ladder 167 has collected toys from the community and even purchased them to make Christmas special.

And even while they are celebrating the nice list with kids in their community, the heroes helping the man in the red suit have a wish of their own.

"Go home safe today," a firefighter said.
