CLARKSTOWN -- Police in Rockland County are investigating a case of computer hacking that resulted in a woman's information being compromised.

20-year old Samantha Weisberg, a college student from West Nyack, reported the incident to police Sunday night.

She told investigators she had received a call from an unknown male caller who told her that her computer had been hacked by Russian computer hackers.

She said the caller instructed her on how to give him remote access to her computer, police said.

He also informed her that she would have pay from $3,000 to $5,000 in order to keep her files and financial information safe.

When the victim refused to pay, police say, the files on her computer were all deleted and not able to be retrieved by "Apple Care".

The vicitm did not lose any money, but her information has been compromised.

The phone number from which the call came from, was not a true number, authorities say.
