BOHEMIA, N.Y. (WABC) -- A school district on Long Island is canceling field trips to New York City as a result of heightened security measures.
The cancellations were outlined in a letter the Connetquot superintendent sent out to parents.
The notice says the district will be postponing and/or canceling any trip for November and December.
Trips to Washington, D.C. or Manhattan scheduled for the spring will be re-evaluated.
Superintendent Lynda Adams released the following statement:
"While state and city officials have indicated that there's no credible threat at the current time, in consideration of the heightened security measures announced by Governor Cuomo and by NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton in statements made on November 18th, the Connetquot Central School District has decided it is most prudent to cancel field trips into Manhattan for the months of November and December. At present no decision has been finalized regarding field trips scheduled for the spring to Washington D.C. or Manhattan. A decision will be made based on circumstances at that time."
