VIDEO: Police say Cooper CEO and wife stabbed
ABC News has confirmed that evidence suggests the crime could have been committed by an unknown third party.

MONTGOMERY TWP, N.J. -- ABC News has confirmed that evidence suggests the deaths of Cooper Health System CEO John Sheridan and his wife could have come at the hands of an unknown third party.

Originally authorities suggested the deaths were murder-suicide.

Police have determined that 72-year-old John and 69-year-old Joyce Sheridan were both stabbed before their Somerset County home was set on fire back in September.

Police and firefighters responded to the house to find the fire contained to an upstairs bedroom, where they found the unresponsive couple.

John Sheridan was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife was lifeless at the home and pronounced dead at the hospital.

A statement issued by the sons reads:

"From the beginning we have said that no one wants answers about our parents' deaths more than us. Real answers will only come after a full and thorough investigation. We do not condone releasing information in a piecemeal fashion because of frustration with the process, it is not helpful to getting to the truth about what happened to our parents. We are committed to getting to the truth and that means we will not comment while the investigation is ongoing."
