Crews battle large apartment fire in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, New Jersey (WABC) -- Firefighters battled a large multi-alarm apartment fire in Lakewood, New Jersey, Friday afternoon.

The blaze was reported around 2:30 p.m. in a three-story apartment building in the 100 block of Sophee Lane. The complex is known as the Covington Village Apartments, a community for people over 55.

Heavy flames were visible on all three floors when crews arrived.

At least three people have been injured, identified as police officers, firefighters and one resident. They were all taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. All of the injured are expected to survive.

So far, there is no word on what sparked the fire.
