THE BRONX (WABC) -- Donald Trump has been on the hot seat for three weeks now after his controversial comments about Mexican immigrants.

"They are bringing drugs, they are bringing crime, they're rapists," Trump said.

And over the weekend, Trump doubled down on his comments, pointing to the murder of 32-year-old Kathryn Stein-Lee. San Francisco police say in a random act of violence, Francisco Sanchez killed her. Authorities say he was in this country illegally, already deported five times, and should have been locked up long ago.

Trump tweeted out this shooting is "yet another example of why we must secure our border immediately."

Monday, at a charity golf tournament at Trump's new course in the Bronx, New York City's former Republican Mayor Rudy Giuliani shared what he thought of what Trump said.

"I know he's a very good man, unbiased, unprejudiced man," he said. "However, he said it. Maybe he could have said it better."

Giuliani said he would have pointed out the vast majority of immigrants are good, hard-working people, but there are some criminals as well.

Over the weekend, most Republicans condemned Trump.

"He's doing this to inflame and incite," presidential candidate Jeb Bush said. "He doesn't represent the Republican party or its values."

"He's going to have to defend those remarks," former Texas Governor Rick Perry said Sunday on This Week with George Stephanopolous. "I never will."

A lot of Republican voters, though, like what they've heard from Trump. He is still doing very well in the polls.

"I would have said it differently, but I do think he's gotten onto an issue that's important," Giuliani said. "Which is making our borders secure."
