Beacon Police fatally shoot suspect on I-84 at Exit 11 in Wappingers Falls

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. (WABC) -- Beacon police fatally shot a suspect near Exit 11 on I-84 westbound around 4 p.m. in Dutchess County Thursday.

Police say at 3:30 p.m., while at Memorial Park in the City of Beacon, a suspect car-jacked a vehicle at knife point.

Police gave chase and the suspect subsequently abandoned the stolen vehicle on North Elm Street and a foot pursuit ensued through a wooded area near I-84.

The suspect ran in a northerly direction across the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-84 near Exit 11.

Just off the westbound shoulder, the suspect threatened pursuing officers with a large knife and was subsequently shot and killed by police.

Eastbound and westbound lanes of I-84 were shut down for a period of time to process the scene of the shooting, causing delays for motorists.
