YONKERS (WABC) -- There is a desperate plea to save one of New York's largest school districts from budget cuts, set to leave it with a 26 million dollar shortfall.

Parents, students and staff at Yonkers Schools rallied outside a city council hearing Tuesday night.

They're calling on the city to put more money towards the schools.

Meanwhile, Yonkers' mayor was in Albany to ask the governor to fill the gap.

The proposed cuts include more than 100 staff members and deep cuts to nearly all school programs.
