Students concerned after Englewood grade, transcript errors

ENGLEWOOD, New Jersey (WABC) -- After a New Jersey school district suspended several officials over student record discrepancies, the students are trying to pick up the pieces along with their guidance counselors.

"It's good to know someone is here for us to help us in such a dyer time," said Stefano Castro, a high school senior.

More than 250 seniors at Dwight Morrow High School are extremely worried about their future.

Will they graduate and get into top colleges and universities all over the country?

"It's so confusing and mind boggling that this is happening," Castro said.

During their winter break, students are now meeting with interim guidance counselors after an audit revealed problems. There were more than 3,000 edits in grades and credit allocations.

School Superintendent Robert Kravitz tells Eyewitness News he noticed irregularities when officials started using new software for transcripts back in July.

As a result, the principal and nine other high level employees have been suspended and on Friday students staged a walked out.

Castro and Leticia Morillo were there, and are both one credit shy of the 20 needed in language arts to graduate.

They say they feel somewhat optimistic after meeting with counselors on Wednesday.

"It's scary, something will happen," Morillo said.

Another big concern, their crucial midterm reports getting to their chosen colleges.

That's something Castro learned has also been addressed.

"Last Saturday they sent out midyear reports, the guidance counselors stayed to send them out information to the schools," Castro said.

Guidance counselors are among those now on leave, something everyone here is getting used to.

"That trust we built for scholarships," Morillo said.
